The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) is a national nonprofit organization with approximately 90,000 student and professional members. EdTA’s mission is shaping lives through theatre education by: honoring student achievement in theatre and enriching their theatre education experience; supporting teachers by providing professional development, networking opportunities, resources, and recognition; and influencing public opinion that theatre education is essential and builds life skills. EdTA operates the International Thespian Society (ITS), an honorary organization that has inducted more than two million theatre students since its founding in 1929.

National Honors Society Members

The purpose of the National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of New Albany High School. Seniors and second-semester juniors with a 3.2 GPA or better are eligible to apply for membership in National Honor Society. Eligible students must attend a meeting during IRP in order to obtain a service verification form and receive instructions on how to apply for membership. The date of the meetings is printed in the New Albany High School Student Handbook. An induction ceremony is held in the fall and the spring of each year. Juniors are only qualified to apply in the spring. Selection for membership is based on prospective members’ grades, involvement in activities, volunteer experience, and character. Each faculty member is asked to rate the character of applicants’ with whom they have worked in school or extra-curricular activities. A faculty committee tallies the service verification forms. Each applicant is assigned a number; the faculty committee sees applicants’ numbers while tallying, not their names. Once selected, students must attend an induction ceremony in order to become a member of National Honor Society. Members are expected to maintain their 3.2 or higher GPA and participate in National Honor Society volunteer activities.
